Default What to see in St Petersburg

Paul, we are planning a Baltic cruise in mid May. I was looking at the shore activities on line, and it occurred to me I don't have any idea what we should try and see. I could use some help with specific sites not to be missed for the first time visitor. Thanks for your help. Mike

We loved the tour of the Hermitage. It is a lot of walking but there are various places to sit and rest. We wore a headset to hear our tour guide. We had a tour of the city included.

Catherine's Palace, Peterhof, Church of Spilled Blood, Hermitage, Yusupov Palace. I recommend DK Eyewitness Guide for St Petersburg; here is the information from Amazon:

Marc hit the main sites to see. I also suggest that you use a private guide or a ship's excursion. Getting around St. Petersburg is not easy for a foreign traveler and you will need a full tourist visa if you go out on your own. If you use a registered tour guide you only need a one/two day visa that you can obtain from the tour guide or by providing the tour tickets at the immigration station at the pier.

When we went on NCL they told and printed that you had to take a ship tour if you did not have a tourist visa. This is not true. Just make sure you use a reputable tour guide/company to provide you with the day visa.

If you want a recommendation for a good guide you can email me.

Take care,
Mike

Mike, thanks for the response. Marc's list is large. We are there for two days but this seems like a lot to try and see. I am planning on ships tours. Is it possible to see all these things or should we plan on two or three. I am not sure how much distance is between these sites. If you can,t see them all, which ones are not to be missed. Thanks Mike

Mike,

The main sites can be seen in two days. I would allow additional time for Peterhof and The Hermitage.

If you use the ship's tours I would suggest doing The Hermitage one day and Peterhof and Catherine's palace the next day.

Take care,
Mike
