I see by lots of adds that you can book a cruise for 1/2 the cost of the orginal price if you can wait till the last minute. Which made me think about upgrading my room the day of sailing. I orginally booked directly with the cruise line, so I have no 3rd party that may lose their commission.
As a staff member, what is the procedures to upgrade to a better room.
if there are cabins availabe the day you sail you can upgrade but you will pay full price at the pier. yes there are deals out there if you can wait and don't care what you get for a cabin, its your airfare that will be the problem usually. If you book now, keep watching the cruiseline for sales, and when you see one that you quality for- read all the small print, call the cruise line and ask for the better deal, you should get it.
You are better off just booking the cabin you want instead of waiting to see if you can upgrade at the last minute. Chances are, the balcony cabins are taken, usually the first to fill up. Good idea to talk to your travel agent shortly before the cruise and see if anything has opened up and what the cost will be. I hardly ever hear of anyone getting an upgrade at the pier, just doesn't happen.
