All of our ships have Internet Cafes. Internet access is available in the Internet Café 24 hours a day until 6:00 AM on debarkation Day.

Wireless access points are located in several areas around the ship*. To access wireless internet, you will need to bring along your own laptop.

In order to take advantage of this service, the guest must bring their own laptop, which must have the following requirements:

• Windows-based operating systems
• Internal modem
• Dial-up Internet capabilities
• Wireless access card.

Internet minutes are available at 5 different rates:

• $0.65 cents per minute with no package.
• $40 for 75 minutes
• $60 for 125 minutes
• $80 for 185 minutes
• $100 for 260 minutes.

Please Note:

• Apple MAC default browser (Safari) is not compatible with the Wireless network onboard. Please obtain Firefox or Internet Explorer for MAC prior to accessing the Wireless system onboard

We have taken laptops on several cruises and would like to suggest a way to save some money. You can take your laptop or netbook ashore and use one of the internet cafes on shore of a fraction of the price aboard the ship. In one Alaska town we hooked up wireless at the library. Many Starbucks and some McDonalds also have WiFi and some are free hookups.

On those older ships they would actually ask you to connect your laptop through your modem into their phone system and configure a "dial-up" connection (remember Earthlink from 1997?) to connect to the web. Oceania ships were like this.

There was no dialing, though, just ausername and password, but it was through the ship's phone (POTS) system.

These days, most of them offer wireless access, which is a little more like broadband (still slower though because the main pipe is satellite).

So, you shouldn't need a modem or dial-up capability if you are in an access point, but in your stateroom it sounds lie they still offer that "dial-up" style of connection.
