Has anyone ever cruised on the Pride Of America in Hawaii ? We've heard pros and cons re this ship. My wife and I are thinking of going to Hawaii in 2011 .I prefer cruising from LA ,whereas she prefers flying to Honolulu and cruising the islands .
The wife and I have been on both. The 15 day Princess cruise was VERY relaxing. The seven day NCL cruise was also very good. The difference being that the Princess ship is much better than the Pride of America. Of course you are only using the ship as a hotel anyway. On the NCL cruise we flew over three days prior to the cruise and spent the time on Oahu. The 3 days we spent in Waikiki beach was fabulous. We rented a car and toured the entire Island, it was a blast. The sunsets at Waikiki Beach were remarkable.
We did the roundtrip from San Diego on HAL a few years ago. Loved it! Days at sea to rest and enjoy cruising, then one day in each of the cities/towns large enough to host a ship, then more days at sea to rest up and relax even more.
We did the Pride of America Sept 07. I thought it was as good as any other ship and in some aspects enjoyed it more. We flew over day before and stayed on Waikiki Beach. Their port of calls were great. We rented car at two ports and drove up to Haleakala Volcano on Maui, and Kilauea on Hilo. We had no complaints of ship. Of course we are just pleased to cruise.

Hi Henry, we just returned from the Golden Princess cruise to Hawaii. We cruised round trip from LA (San Pedro) and had a wonderful time ! It was a 14 day cruise with only five ports. We love sea days so it was great for us, but if you're someone who needs to be doing something all the time I'd go for the NCL cruise, with some time before or after in Hawaii.
Since we've not sailed NCL in Hawaii I can't be sure, but I've read many reviews that say that the service is poor . Then again, the NCL cruise is so port intensive that it might not make much difference.
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time no matter which you choose,
