As a special gift for my mother's 50th birthday, I am planning on treating her to 5 night cruise to the bahama's/carribean. Neither of us have cruised before. I am looking for any recommendations on cruise lines, cabins, excursions, etc. I would prefer to stay in the moderate range in price. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Hi Kim (just guessing??), and welcome! My suggestion for your and your Mom's first cruise would be to find a Travel Agent who is a Cruise Specialist. You really need to talk to someone who knows about all the cruise lines and, from talking to you, can find you the best "fit". It won't cost you a thing and you'll have someone to run "interference" for you if needed.
Ask any of your friend's who've had a fun cruise, or call an established Travel Agency and ask if they have a Cruise Specialist.
After the first time, you'll be more comfortable booking on your own, if that's your choice.
Let us know what you decide!

When doing your research for your mom/daughter cruise, may-be consider looking at a 7 day cruise. You will get more ports and I don't think there is a lot of price difference, especially if you have to fly into the port to catch the ship. Just something to look at.
Getting matched up to the right cruise is so important..Remember that 5 day cruises, "usually" have a younger group onboard, something you may not be looking for, with your mother.
If you are flying into port, as Donna mentioned, the 7 day make be the better choice.
