This is my families first time cruising. We have 4 kids, 5,7,11, and 13. We are close to Baltimore, and are thinking about cruising out of Baltimore due to the reduced cost compared of traveling down to FL.
We are looking to cruise for 9 nights in Jan or Feb of 2011. Sure I know the first days and the last days will be cold. Are there enough inside things for my wife and I and the kids to do that we will not be bored when the weather is cold? Can you satay inside a cruise chip and not go out if the weather is bad? How do cruise lines handle leaving from a cold port in the winter? We are thinking about sailing on either Celebrity Mercury or RCI Enchantment of the Seas.
I once cruised out of Boston in a blizzard.....I think the Enchantment wiould be a giood fit for your family..The children can be in the kids programs, so that's a plus...I am sure the line has it down pat, as far as acrtivities for the winter climates, so I wouldn't worry. Before you know it, you will be cruising in the heat Have a ball!

We sailed from Baltimore last Dec. on the Mercury. The terminal is nothing fancy but the boarding was very smooth. Believe it or not, people were working on their tans the second day at sea! BUT, I wouldn't recommend Celebrity if your cruising with 4 children of that age. We loved our cruise but it was an "over 50" crowd-I'm not even sure if they have a childrens program. Lots more to keep them entertained on RCI! Have fun
