Default exchanging currency

Since we will be stopping in Belize and Roatan should we exchange some money before shopping or stick to us currency? I know that they accept US everywhere. I didn't know if it would be a better savings or not.

most businessess accept us currency with no problem, just be aware that if you pay in cash, you may get your change back in the local currency.

... and if you chose to use your credit card, make sure the card does NOT leave your sight.

Also.. if you think you may be using your credit card while traveling, notify your credit card company of where you'll be going.

FYI, in Belize, the Belize dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 2 Belizean dollars to 1 U.S. dollar. American currency is accepted there, but, before you pay, be sure you know what currency the price refers to. Otherwise, you may pay twice as much as you should.

most shops have their prices posted in both local and us currency, if not i will always ask if the price is in us or local currency
