Hi, my wife and i are not sure now after reading some post in the shore excursion forum, we are going on the 11day Equinox on Jan 17th /11 and were wondering what to do in couple of the ports, After reading ,we are now unsure about weather or not we should even get off the ship in Columbia or Panama. One poster says no problem and others say dont as it is very unsafe ( we were going to do something on our own as we can only $$ a couple of excursions and we have some booked in other ports) how unsafe are these ports just to walk around and see the sites on our own ? Any help will be awsome thanks from a couple of Canucks

I have been to both places you mentioned. If u want to go and explore on your own; most of the area right by the ports will have shops, vendors, etc, and these are safe areas; if the cruise line can't ensure they are safe for passengers to shop, they would stop visiting the areas.

If you stay in the port area you will be OK. I would not go off on your own in these ports. There are some beautiful things to see but there are also some undesirable areas that you should stay away from. Without someone to help you know which area is which you could put yourself in a situation you don't want.

Try googling :Crime in Panama and the same for Columbia ,you will get the respective government website
