Default 220 converter for Med cruise

Where did you buy one? Do I need anything "special" to charge my Kindle? What about phone's, camera's, razor's, etc.??? Do you have to buy online or from a luggage store? When I asked at Wal-Mart I got the "eye's glazed over" look !

Fern, since you will only be away from a 110v power source for 48 hrs I would suggest you just fully charge everything and use them sparingly during this time.

Once you get on the ship you should have access to the 110v system on the ship.

I had the same issue but in the other direction last November on the constellation with my laptop and went to buy one at my local electronics store.
They pointed out to me that most modern power adaptors for laptops will take 220 or 110v and all I needed was a power plug adapter.
The information was printed on the base of the adapter but was so small I had to scan it and blow up the picture on my computer to read it to confirm they were correct.

I also took large numbers of spare batteries which I only ended up using 20% of.

Voltage converters can be quite bulky and very heavy.

Default All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter

Lombard is correct, all your gadgets should be adaptable for 110 or 220. Check to be sure. All you should need is an adapter. You can buy an All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter for US, UK, EU, AU on Amazon. The one I bought and works perfect is selling today for <$4 w/free shipping.

You can buy the converters at Walmart; and other discount stores; I can't believe the electronics person didn't know what you were asking for. Radio Shack has them; but U really don't need one; even the hotels in europe have 110 outlets in the bathrooms. I travel overseas quite often; and the outlets in hotel bathrooms work fine; also; when u check into a hotel ask the front desk; they normally have adapters to use for your room.

Fern,
I think you got the "new guy" when you asked. Converters are available at just about any major store. At Target they will be with the "Travel Accessories" by the suitcases.

All you will need for your "chargeable" stuff is a plug adapter. You will not need a converter for the computer just a plug adapter.

If you will be on the ship most of the time then you have no problem. Just charge your stuff onboard.

The big problems is if you use a plug adapter on something like a hair dryer. You can burn the thing out if you don't have a step down converter.

Take care,
Mike

Thanks everyone!

We'll really only need to charge the phone and my Kindle in the hotel before the cruise. If my Kindle loses its charge I'll be very hard to live with! I'll just buy an adapter and it looks like everything will work out fine !

There are actually three different options: adapters, converters, and transformers.

For most electronics, and many newer hand held appliances, all you need is an adapter. I wouldn't use the one in european bathrooms to plug in my computer; pay the money and get an adapter. While you are doing it, you might as well get a kit for worldwide use. UK, Australia, and Europe use different plugs. In addition, Eastern and Western Europe are slightly different so it is good to have the additional adapter for eastern europe.

Converters are needed for all other electronics that are not dual voltage.

Transformers should be used for anything with a motor. Just converting the power instead of transforming the power will lead to a short life for the motor.

I have tons of adapters for Europe along with a couple of sets for rest of world; what I am looking for is a converter from 220 back to 110 so I can plug in my German christmas lights (either that or i have to find US bulbs).

Thanks, Marc. I don't expect to be going overseas again, but you never know! I'll check into the worldwide kit.

Good luck in finding your "backwards" converter .

Fern, if you charge your kindle at home, you should be good to go till you get on the ship, right? All your plug ins will be fine, so you don't really need anything, if all the meds I am on, have not clogged my brain.

This is what I was planning to do for the Magic..

Hi Trip, yes, my Kindle should hold a charge for the two days in Barcelona before we cruise. Since I keep it plugged in at home unless I'm reading, I really don't know how long the charge will last .

This is one of the things I'll need to know for our Magic cruise in the fall .

I'm really looking forward to reading about your cruise for "practice"!

I hope you're feeling better very soon,

A side benefit for an adapter is another outlet on the ship. There is usually a Euro outlet in the cabin by the dressing table and with the adapter you have a convienently located outlet to use.

Fern, what would u like to know about Europe or the Med; I have cruised twice thru the med; and last year did a 12night best of europe. I also travel thru Europe and Asia with my company; so I may be able to answer your questions. You will not need to recharge your kindle. My wife took hers on the cruise last year; she charged at home; read on the airplane to london; read on the cruise, and than back home. She also went on a pilgrimage to Israel and Jordon last year; she never charged it in 12 days. Your phone may be a different story; I have to charge my iphone everyday. But the ship has plugs in all the cabins; so u will be good to go; A lot of airlines have plugs at the seat; all first class seats have them; and coach class has them also; you can check with the airline and they can tell your or go to seatguru.com and they list everything you want to know about the airplane you will be flying.

Thanks, AF1 . Right now I don't even know enough to ask questions! I'm waiting for Trip to come back and tell me what she saw and did and how it all worked out for her.

Then I'm sure I'll have questions!

Should have bought it when I posted . Today it's a whole $3.40 with free shipping! I wondered how they could possibly sell it so cheap with free shipping . A stamp cost's more!

Thanks,
Fern,
That's the one I bought a year ago and was referring too on my earlier post. Have used it twice in Europe and planning to take it to London in May and China in September. It is well built and very durable. Got wind of it on another web discussion group.
