Question about "formal night" attire?

Trying to travel as light as I can. We're going on the Oasis -but I guess same applies to all ships.

Do I need a suit or jacket for formal nights? Or would I look out of place with just a nice long-sleeve shirt & nice (non-jeans) pants? Any comments?

I think the suit would serve you well on the Oasis.

Hows this...that nice long sleeve shirt, a tie, and nice slacks. Better for you? You might be considered underdressed by some and overdressed by the guy in a tee shirt,and jeans

A fair compromise by many.....

My vote, a suit packed with two dress shirts for the two "formal" evenings, bet you look great dressed up, go for it and enjoy it. After dinner, you can always just take off the suit jacket if it makes you more comfortable.

You will just have to have some "formal" pictures taken of you, all dressed up!

Next Saturday night we are going out to dinner with friends to a restaurant that has always required that men wear jackets .Yesterday they changed this to business casual.My thinking is that eventually this will be the norm on cruise ships.

i agree with the others pack your suit, 2 dress shirts, 2 ties, and you will be all set for formal nights
