Default Anyone Worried about Terrorism?

Hello-
I am heading to the Mediterranean in August for a cruise mostly in the Greek Islands, Turkey, Croatia and Italy.

Is anyone else out there re-thinking their plans to head this close to Libya or worried since the recent events with bin Laden??

Just wondering if I should sail as planned or stay closer to home...??

Thanks for your thoughts.

I grew up in Europe (Germany) in the mid 80s. Baader-Meinhof was kind of a way of life back then. We were living on base at Rhein-Main AB in 1985 when the car bomb went off next to the HQ building. Felt that one a good 5 miles away.
So I guess in some form, terrorism has always been around in my life. I just don't take anything for granted and just go on with life.

Not really.

In today's world it is always a concern and reasonable cautions need to be made but there is no indication that cruises will be a target or that there is any greater danger now than there was a year ago.

Go: Enjoy and see one of the most beautiful and historical parts of the world.

Take care,
Mike

We're traveling later this month and talked about this last night. We think TSA may be more strict than usual. I think we'll be extra careful about what we put in our carry-on's and watch our conversations in the airport a little more closely than before. I don't want anything in our baggage questioned or any jokes or innocent-to-us comments misinterpreted.

We are scheduled for a transatlantic come October from Venice to FLL. One of the reasons we chose this itinerary is because we can fly out of the US to Venice with only one stop in Philadelphia, then on to Venice. I'm more confident flying out of the US than from Europe. Hope no one is viewing this site.

Thumbs up

I guess many of us is worried. Obama succeeded on his fight against terrorism though many lives has been sacrifice due to bloodshed that took almost years . Now that Osama Binladen is Cold Dead Meat I hope the terrorism will ends on that. Too many died including innocent children. Lets unite to fight and stop any terrorism acts. Post your fondest memories of Osama Bin Laden

Life goes on, terrorism is a fact a life and we have to deal with it; but, you can stay home or you can go out. If you stay home and don't enjoy seeing the world; then ther terrorists have won. That is why they want you to be afraid to travel. Have a wonderful cruise; I have been on two european cruises and loved them both.

DHill, The Achille Lauro cruise ship was attacked by terrorists in 1985 They killed an american who was confined to a wheel chair. They threw him over the side of the ship. So yes they have attacked cruise ships.

I think ever since 9/11 we will always have that embedded in our minds, so we are never totally safe from terrorism, those days are gone.

Default Threats to america

After listening to the deciphering of the computers that were captured in the raid.. There was talk about destruction of a train in this country on 9/11. I believe there are crazies out there in this country who will try to retaliate now. Will that stop me from traveling anywhere...absolutely not..We flew to the UK right after 9/11...Until they find all the "cells" in this country there is always a danger..

There are many factors at play here. First of all, worrying about terrorism overseas is a bit like worrying about getting mugged in New York City. Yes, it could happen, but not if you have a good guide, use professional travel services and remain vigilent.

Then it could still happen, but think about the millions of people who live in Israel every day. They are "terrorism-aware" but it doesn't stop them from living their lives.

The actual amount of terrorism that occurs is limited, and you wouldn't want to miss seeing those parts of the world. Countries like Egypt DO realize how important tourism is to their economy and they are vigilent.

The truth is that certain parts of the world have always been powder kegs, but we forget that here in our isolated continent of America. But if you look at the history of the Balkans, for example, they haven't been "at peace" for centuries. There have been wars breaking out every decade just about - except when it was all Yugoslavia, and then you just didn't hear about it.
