Question about the Caribbean

What do you wear on your feet in the Caribbean waters ?

I was told that there are rocks on the sea floor . The last time my feet were in these waters was never .My wife is taking water shoes .The only comparable thing I own are flip flops and Yom Kippuh sneakers .

Pick up a pair of water shoes, they are pretty cheap and work well in the water...Otherwise, you can wear an old pair of sneakers, but flip flops in the water just won't work, almost like trying to walk in flippers, not easy...One time we stepped on sea urchins and got tons of these little stickers on the bottoms of our feet, had to go to first aid and pull them out, ouch! Now, I always have my water shoes..

When we were just snorkeling at St. Kitts they warned us of fire coral.

if your going to the beach in Grand Turk you definitely want water shoes....otherwise just plain old bare feet.

Water shoes are great. Especially with beaches around Cozumel.

BTW--just returned from the stingray sandbar at Grand Cayman and was reminded that it is bare feet only there. Had to peel off the water shoes....but the sand is great.

Henry, i have a pair of LL Bean water sandals that i swear by, they have more support, thicker sole and more grip than most of the water shoes. I wear them 90% of the time during the day when cruising

I could not find anything in my size ,its either barefoot or an old pair of sneakers.

My wife bought me a pair of these sandals from Sierra Trading Post:

They worked fine as water sandals on our cruise and I wore them a lot on board. We buy a lot of stuff from STP so we get some additional amounts off. We have always found them to have great customer service.

You will be OK. As long as you are careful and walk slowly there should not be a problem.
There are some stones at the beaches in Labbadee, we have been there three times and we did not get hurt.

You also have to remember, that sand can get really hot to the bottoms of your feet, for sand, your flip flops will work..

One of the reasons I go to beaches is to feel the wet sand on my feet. I also like to put my feet under the dry sand and venture out to the water to feel the waves. So I have not asked myself this question because if I am not barefoot, there is no reason to go to the beach.

However, I do wear sandals with heel support until I find a place to put down my towel. I don't like to wear sandals, but they are better than foot burns.
