Looking at December is a very small chance of a hurricane. Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. We have cruised in Dec with absolutily no problems and are going again this Dec.
We have only had one time when a hurricane affected our cruise and that was an Oct cruise. A hurrican had come across FL while on the cruise and the only trouble we had when we returned was still some power outages in the Ft Lauderdale area, so at some traffic lights there were police directing traffic.

We generally cruise in the fall and summer up and down the west coast, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii...etc. in other words, on the Pacific side.
Now, for the first time we are getting ready to do the Caribbean side and have some concerns about hurricane season...we're looking at a December cruise.
Should we have any worries about sailing during hurricane season?
There is very little chance of a December hurricane. There have been a few but they usually wander off the coast of Africa and form and move north into the North Atlantic. I think the last "hurricane" that hit the Caribbean, in December, was Lilly in 1984.
There are some tropical storms and tropical depressions that can occur but while they are more likely they rarely have an effect on cruisers other than some rain.
Take care and enjoy the hurricane free cruise.
