I don't quite understand, why you would challenge this?? Every cruiseline charges this, basically as tips for the wait and cabin staff that take care of you...I, myself like having them prepaid and if I want to add to that to some special person, I can..

Default Just looking for information I believe in tipping

Yes this is a simplified way of tipping, but some people I have heard don't want to give a tip because of service etc. Can the person say no to having this charge if they are want to demonstrate their dissatisfaction.

Some have tips taken off because of dissatisfaction (real or imagined) with just one crew member. This is bad because it cuts the tips to all the others who did their job well.
Some cut their tips just to cut their bill down.
I leave mine on as a courtesy, never taken them off. If a crew member did exceptionally well, I slip that person a few dollars more.

If you choose to tip extra ask the person if they get to keep the tip. Policies vary by line but some people don't get to keep tips, they have turn them in to their boss for the tip pool anyway. Not only do they not get the money your making them work extra by making them turn it in.
