Default Switching cruises....

I don't think I have many options but I thought I would ask. I already asked my travel agent and he had no solutions that would not cost me $$$.

Here's the scoop. We booked an 11 day Southern Caribbean cruise on Quantum the day they went on sale. We paid $1,579. The same balcony cabin is now going for $2,564. Almost $1,000 more! We have been saying to ourselves how lucky we are to have booked so early because we could not afford the current rates. We are stretching as it is.

Well our luck has changed.... Her favorite niece is getting married and has asked her to be in the wedding and of course it's dead smack in the middle of our cruise!!! She has asked me to try and switch cruises.

We looked up 2 different cruises on Quantum. Both cruises are 12 day Southern Caribbean cruises. Jan 11 = $2,184 & March 1 $2,144. Roughly $600 dollars more than we paid for our current booking but about $400 less than our current cabin is going for. We were hoping that RCCI might let us change bookings but our travel agent said the only thing he can do is cancel our current booking and re-book. Even with our future cruise certificate it's still undo-able at over $1,000.

Anybody have any ideas??? We really have our hearts set on sailing on Quantum next winter. I'm between a rock and a very hard spot! I may have no choice but to cancel.

Nope, you're pretty much stuck.

You can't 'sell' it to someone else, because RCCL requires at least on of the original people in the booking to stay in the booking. So while you could change one person's name, you can't change both.

But you don't have to cancel and rebook, they can actually move the deposit you have already paid to the new cabin so you don't have to worry about getting a refund and then making another payment.

And what your original cabin is worth has no bearing whatsoever on the price of your new cabin.

Unfortunately, your agent has given you the correct information and there's not alot they can do. The only thing I might recommend is for your agent to contact their Business Development Manager with RCCL and see if perhaps they can pull some strings to make the change a bit more palatable.

That is some bad news. Good news for your niece and her wedding. Looks like you will have to cancel one and book a new reservation. Depending on how well the 11-12 day cruises are selling; they could also go down in price prior to your sailing. Good luck. cheers

beachbum13, I know how much you have been looking forward to your cruise on the Quantum. I have been following all of your posts on that ship. I too will be on the Dec. 1st sailing and am very excited about it. I hope you can find a solution that will work out for everyone.

I was told this weekend, "If we're not going to the wedding we have to get them a really nice wedding present"!!! I can do that!!! I suggested a "future cruise" certificate and I was told that would be a great idea. So for now, happy, happy, happy!!!!
