I have enjoyed cruises on HA, but I hate to have to carry a jacket & tie (let alone a suit) to eat in the dining room on formal nights. During my first cruise on HA's Volendam, when lobster was served in the restaurant, it was also available at the Lido buffet, but during a recent cruise on the Amsterdam, it was not. (A Lido waiter told me too much self-serve lobster would be eaten!)I have booked a N.Z. cruise on the Oosterdam. Do you know if when lobster is served in the Vista dining room, it will also be available at the Lido (which your review says now has table service for dinner), or must I take a jacket to enjoy it? I have, by the way, signed up for open seating for dinner on the Oosterdam, not mentioned in your review. Thank you.
I have seen HAL offer crab claws in the Lido during LUNCH hours many times (and I usually have a few or more myself).
My guess is that you will NOT see full lobsters in the Lido unless it is a quiet cruise, or if you happen to get there early and find the line serving the staff.
See, on Holland America the staff eats its dinner in the Vista Lounge - it used to be "just" for staff, but a guest would not be turned away. Now I see the Vista opened up to more people but here is a hint - the staff usually dines at 6:00, so if you get there then you should see their food out for service - and they might have it.
HAL also does a Caneletto Italian style restuarnt at night up in the Lido on many ships. I doubt they would have the Lobster.
