Default Question regarding dental emergencies for crew members

I am currently in the process of being hired to work aboard a large cruise ship.

I have one concern, however.

I have a number of fillings, crowns and veneers in my mouth that were used to address problem teeth that were chipped, broken etc. I am worried about what will happen if I should encounter a dental problem while working on the ship.

I'm aware that most cruise ships do not have a dentist onboard. Can any current/former cruise ship employees educated me on what will happen if I should lose one of my fillings, crowns or veneers while working onboard.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to work aboard a cruise ship, and I would hate to avoid employment on a cruise ship due to my fear of encountering a dental emergency that would remain unresolved for the duration of my contract.

Please help me out.

there is a forum for crew members further down the page you may want to ask there
I know a crew member friend that had a situation he waited until in port to see a dentist in Mexico then had to go back on the return leg of the cruise to finish the job

Also check with your dentist. He can give you an emergency kit that has some temporary fixes (filling material, glue, etc.) that you can use to take care of a problem until you can see a dentist.

..i was thinking also, what happens if one has orthodontics brackets, when you supose to see the dentist every month or 2 maximum. Would they not hire you for such a little thing?

If you inform the cruise line that you must leave your job on the ship every month or two in order to have your braces adjusted, they will NOT hire you.

If you do not tell them about it until after you have been hired, you will be terminated rather quickly.
