Default What is the meaning of "cabaret" style

in their entertaining? No spectacular shows-just singers, musicians and maybe comedians?

Their emphasis is on lecturers?

Not that I think cabaret means lectures but do.they not have spectacular Las Vegas/Broadway because their ships don't emphasize the entertainment?

just saw your post
Usually they are 1 person acts like a magician solo musician the show lounge is small & have tables with a few chairs around like a private club atmosphere

If you google the ship name you might find some photos of the lounge
Oceania & Princess also have the same small ships known as R-Ships

Right - a "cabaret" act is generally a singer with a piano player doing torchy ballads. It can also be an impressionist, comedian, etc.

But it is more small-cast - not big showtime shows, which can be a waste of money for small cruise lines since they rarely rate in the ratings anyway.

I fully agree with the other replies in their interpretation of the term 'cabaret'.
On similar ships in the past we have had After Dinner speakers, a small production theatre/er show of Noel Coward's Private Lives, music "Tribute" acts, etc.
These ships do have guest lecturers, but they are usually scheduled totalk during the daytime on days at sea.

It is while off now, but we are travelling on Azamara Journey in August, so will give you a 100% factual answer after that - if I can find this post of course

Hope this helps,

Alan & Katrina

I am one of the guest speakers on the Azamara Journey, 9 Feb 2015, through the Panama Canal, but sorry, I don't sing or dance. The speakers are generally scheduled during the day while at sea.

While I do provide some level of entertainment and perhaps some useful information... I leave the dancing, singing thing to the evening performers, who generally are quite good.

The venues for most of the activities aboard Azamara ships are very personalized, and you may even dine with the performers... or at least the guest speakers.

See you on the waves,

So glad that this post re-appeared as it reminded me that I did promise to come back with a factual answer. So here it is ...
Entertainment
- Dance Troupe. Given the restricted area available on this small ship, the troupe (2 singers, the 2 dancers who also did the daytime lessons, and 2 fillers) did a wonderful job putting on multiple shows. The use of a bank of screens to support them was inspired.
- Local entertainment. Unlike other ships of this size, Azamara only brought on local entertainment in one port - Bilbao. We were overnight in most ports, so they could have done better in our opinion
- Special Events
- White Evening, was a pleasant evening with local musicians & dancers onboard (see above). The food was a well-planned (if as usual cold) self-service BBQ, and everyone seemed to have a great time.
- Enrichment Talks. (Time for me to moan) Why-oh-why were there no Wine talks on board, after all this was sold as a Wine & Food voyage, yet there was no effort to offer insight & education into wines, pairings, different types & methods etc. I had expected evenings where you would be able to learn about the wines that Azamara offer to help us learn from the cruise, but nothing. Very poor and disappointing in my opinion.
The only talks on board were the Port Lectures, which you'd hope for, plus a REALLY annoying speaker droning on about various European Royals which really had no bearing on this cruise. We lasted just 5 minutes so maybe she had some interesting info, we (plus quite a few others) will never know
Apologies for the delay, hope this isn't too late for your needs.
Alan
