I am very new at this cruise line thing. I am getting married in July, 2001 and we would like to go on a cruise in July. I have searched the web and there are numerous ads. Maybe, someone can give me some advice. We are a couple in our 30s and we would like a romantic type of environment, good food, and good sights. We are not real party animals but can shake a leg now and then. I would prefer not to have tons of children around and would also prefer people in our age bracket. I would like a nice cabin. We were looking at the Southern Caribbean region. We don't mind dressing up a couple of nights and plan on staying 5 to 7 days. So can anyone help me out with a cruise line, ship, or information on how to plan a cruise and important factors to consider.
To me it kind of sounds like Princess may do well with you. There are less ships in the Caribbean during the summer months, but a few. A honeymoon cruise is just the best way to celebrate it. When you think you've picked a ship, you may want to post on the "bargain finder" here at cruisemates. That way travel agents will e-mail you with prices for that cruise. Its really easy and saves you a lot of time. You may also want to look at Royal Caribbean. At that time of year a lot of ships are up in Alaska, have you thought about cruising there??
Have fun deciding, but the idea of a cruise honeymoon sounds perfect, enjoy.
I agree completely with Donna's comments about Princess, except that I would recommend the "Grand Mediterranean" itinerary (aboard MV Golden Princess) next summer in the Mediterranean. In addition to cruising aboard what will be the newest "love boat," you will have an overnight stay aboard the ship in the romantic city of Venice. Additionally, the other ports of call are fantastic, too!
I'm one of those guys who ordinarily books an inside cabin to save money (and is just as happy to invest the savings in cruise line stocks), but I definitely would spring for a suite for a honeymoon.
Well in July you'll have a hard time finding a ship without kids unless you book one of the luxury lines. but that should not be the factor that finally determines your choice. The major decisons to be made are budget and geography.
In July the entire Northern Hemesphere is open for consideration including the Caribbean (lots of families in the summer), Bermuda (smaller ships and capacity controlled), Alaska (lots and lots of choices), Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, and lots of diverse choices in Europe.
Regarding cruiselines....based on your posting I'd recommend either Princess or Celebrity and possibly Holland America.
Since you've never been on a cruise and you're on your honeymoon I'd say you should save on the airfare so that you can afford some lux in your accommodations. If you live in the Eastern part of the country look into either the Century (my wife and I did our honeymoon on this ship) or the Grand Princess and book something with a balcony. The best deal in the Caribbean for a balcony tends to be the Cat. 2 on the Century as a gaurantee. In about 50% of cases you will get upgraded to a larger suite with a larger balcony.
If you live toward the west think Alaska or Mexico and book likewise.
If I can be of any help to you with this booking please e-mail me at Hobbsey@aol.com.
Would also suggest you consider Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas.
She is a beautiful ship and entertainment is always excellent. Although summer always have more kids onboard, since Grandeur will be sailing out of San Juan, maybe fewer. Ship will be cruising the souther iten. For a review and virtual tour of the ship, try keyword Parnami and check the ship out. If that doesn't work, email me and I will send the site.
