Default Best Beaches on Cozumel

I will be traveling with friends on the Voyager of the Seas in about 3 weeks. When docked in Cozumell we
want to stay on the island and shop and relax on the beaches there. No interest in
Tulum or Xcaret - too time consuming. I have been to Cozumel before, my friends have not.
What are the nices beaches to go to on Cozumel ? Playa del Sol? Passion Island? Are they
easy to get to? Do they have facilities? Thanks.

Hi Cathy,
You may want to take a taxi over to Chankanaab Park, good snorkeling and a nice beach. You can still walk around town and then visit Carlos & Charlies too
:-) Have a great time on Voyager, so much to see and do just on the ship.

This link has an overload of info but basically Cozumel has snorkeling on the west side of the island and nice calm beaches on the east. Playa Bonita is really a nice calm sandy beach. Snorkeling is great in several spots on the west side. The parks like Chankanaab can be crowded. Take a taxi to both sides.

There are two popular beaches -- Chankanaab and San Franciso, both on the leeward side of the island. They have restaurants, equipment rental, etc.

The windward side of the island is pretty bare ... you'd need to rent a scooter or a car to get there. Unless you want to pay a cab driver to wait for you.

I don't know east/west but all the snorkeling and diving we've done on Coz is on the same side of the island as the beaches above.

Happy Sails!

We loved Playa del Sol. We took a taxi @ $12 each way and arranged for him to pick us up at a specified time. Plan to go in the early morning (fbefore the tour bus) gets to that beach. The sun will get really hot mid-day. There is a great crafts/gifts bazaar, restroom and restaurant facility right on the beautiful white sand beach. Water sports equipment is available for hire, too. Stop and buy from the vendors on your way out and don't hesitate to bargain with them. When you get back to the ship just have a late lunch then go into town. Don't miss Poncho's Backyard inside of the store at the end of the main street. It is a lovely Spanish patio style restaurant and lounge often with strolling musicians.
Bon Voyage
