car rental in St Martin

My son and I will be in port(Phillipsburg) on August 15. We have heard that there are cars and jeeps available for rent and that the island is pretty easy to get around. Does anyone know of a rental place and are there some near the port? Thanks.

The island may not be hard to get around, but I wouldn't recommend driving there unless you have done it before. Traffic in Phillipsburg is terrible. Gas stations are far and few in between. You have to go out towards the airport to pick up most cars. Make sure you have a good driving map because the roads can be in awful condition in some areas. Maybe someone will give you a good recommendation for a convenient rental agency which will deliver a car to the pier now that the new one is open.

Once you're out of Philipsburg it is easy to get around and beach hop. Marigot and Grand Case are also much nicer to visit than overcrowded Philipsburg, so by all means, explore.
