Leaving on the Destiny in about 3 weeks. Have taken care of just about all I will do on each
island (St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Aruba) Got a final question about Curacao.
I am thinking about renting a car to tour Curacao.
If anybody has done this, here are my questions:
1. Did you reserve the car in advance?
2. How much was a one day rental and for what kind of vehicle
3. Do I need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to visit Boca Tabla or some of the beaches in the northwest?
4. How easy is it to drive around Curacao? Are the road signs in English as well as Dutch?
Any info would be appreciated.
We tried to rent a car in Curacao last April. We hadn't made a reservation and didn't get off our ship right away. There was a car rental office near the pier (I think it was Avis but not 100% sure) but it was closed for lunch - this was well before noon. The office wasn't going to reopen for several hours. We tried to find a car rental place in town or at a nearby hotel with no success. I would strongly suggest reserving a car in advance if you want wheels while you're there.
We did rent a car in Aruba and had no problems at all driving around. I would guess that driving conditions on the two islands would be similar.
