Default St. Maarten Update, Please.

Haven't been there for over 15 years - any changes I should know about? Is there a way of getting to and from St Croix? Can you recommend a half-day excursion (no beaches - we live in Florida)? Do you remember whether or not you had a good time on one of those "booze cruises?" We'll be there on the Golden Princess just before Christmas. Any information is much appreciated!

You must be confused. St. Croix is near St. Thomas not St. Maarten. St. Martin,(french side) is lovely. Marigot is tres chic. Great shopping there for clothes, handbags, jewelry, and wine. Food there is devine. Philipsburg (dutch side) is very good for shopping for jewelry. Much better than any other island. The beaches are also heavenly. Have fun. Write a review when you get back. I was there in April 2001 and will be back on a cruise this Dec. and also for a one week stay in March. It is one great place.

Have been there at least a half dozen times...GREAT island! Family used to own a timeshare at Pelican Resort and Casino. You asked about a "booze cruise" if the Gandolf still operates don't miss it great time, food and booze!

We went on the Golden Eagle catamaran tour in St. Marteen and loved it. You sail fast out of port to a private beach on the french side. They provide snorkel gear and will guide you to a reef around the bend if you want to snorkel or you can just enjoy the beach. Then it is a slow sail back to the pier. Beer, rum punch, and soda were included in the price.

If you get sea sick easily I wouldn't suggest this trip. It was rather windy the day we went and I would say about half the people on the boat got sick. They tell you right away the best place on the boat to go if you feel sick, ect.
