My wife and I are going on the Eastern Carribean cruise on Celebrity Century in several weeks. We've heard that a great way to tour the islands is by getting a small group together and negotiate a price with the driver to take you around the island for the day... We'll probably do this in St. Thomas, St. Maartan/St. Martin, and the Bahamas... What is a fair price (per person) for each hour?
They dont' charge by the hour. And..you don't have to get your own group together. Usually threre are van drivers who make you an offer, usually $15.00 pp and they combine a tour with stops for photo opts as well as giving you time on the beach. Especially in our favorite place, St. Marteen, we do sightseeing, followed by a shopping time at an open air flea-market-type place that's great, and then to Orient Beach where there's an open air restaurant/burger place that has live music and is very festive. The driver either leaves you there for about an hour and a half and comes back for you or waits for you and brings you back to the ship. They talk to you as you come off and they keep you waiting until they get about 6 people together to make it worth their while. Great way to see most islands.
