Default Doing your own ex. in Barbados, Antigua, St. Croix

I would love to hear from those that have arranged their own excursions in these ports. Especially if anyone has booked a seperate tour company such as using Capt. Marvin in Grand Cayman. We've used him and also used Red Sail Sports in GC and Ocho Rios. Are there similar ones that can be rec. in the ports I mentioned? We'll have 8-10 in our party.

Linda, last Feb. our family of four stopped at Barbados and Antigua off the Dawn Princess. We arranged tours on our own once we got off the ship. We went into each port and found MANY taxi drivers more than willing to take us on a tour of their island. In Barbados we were able to stop and see sights that tour buses just drive by and point out to you. These drivers are accommodating enough to stop at whatever point you want. On Antigua, we stopped at many interesting points and then the driver took us to a favorite beach of hers and left us there for 2 hours. The boys had a blast with the sea and the water sports there. She showed us a sight of a harbor that we won't soon forget. These tours that we arranged on our own were cheaper than taking the ship's tours (on average approx. $80 total for the tour of the island.) The only concern we had was would she pick us up (in Antigua) once we got to the beach. Not to worry, they want to be paid so she came back for us. There were many other people there and lots of cabs so even if she didn't, we would have got back to the ship. This is such a more relaxing way to see the islands and we will do it again in Feb. 2002 when 8 of us sail the Sun Princess to the Panama Canal. I understand how nerve racking this can be but having done it once, we won't hesitate to do the tours again this way. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the nice info. Do you remember the name of the beach you enjoyed in Antigua?

Linda,

Faye makes a good point. Found taxi drivers in St. Lucia, Barbados and St, Croix to be very dependable. As I travel on business in the islands, a reliable ride is worth it's weight in gold. Simply state your itinerary and they will tell you if they can meet it. Have not been disappointed yet but would always recommend a "Plan B" just in case.
