Default best place to snorkel in st thomas or st martin

My husband, mother and myself are booked on the pride nov30th eastern cruise. I want to take my mother snorkeling for the first time and want somewhere that she can walk in from the beach, due to her not being able to swim very good, she doesnt want to go ou to deep, like they would off a boat. any suggestions of the best places to go on these 2 islands would be appreciated. Cant wait until we leave, have never been to the eastern caribbean before, only cruised on the western side.

Hi Pam,
I'd definately take mom over to St. Johns when you are in St. Thomas and go over to Trunk Bay, great snorkeling, beautiful beach and easy to just walk right in. There is also an underwater snorkeling trail. You can either do this on your own or with a ship excersion. If you go on your own, just get a cab at the pier and go to Red Hook Ferry over to St. Johns, I think they run the ferry's every hour, then once at St. Johns, a short cab ride to the beach, she'll love it!

Other possibilites are Coki Beach on St. Thomas and Pinel Island at St. Maarten. Both are from the beach and both can be done on your own sheaprer than whet the cruise lines charges.

You can beat the snorkeling that you will find at Trunk Bay but you can't beat the scenery.

Coki on St. Thomas is excellent. Go to the rocks on the right for fish, the rocks to the left for coral.

St. Marten has an excursion to "Shipwreck Bay" that is good.

Take the ferry on your own from St Thomas (right in the main shopping area) over to St John. It is easy to grab cabs there to Trunk Bay, which is a large beautiful beach you can snorkle from. There is an underwater snorkle trail which is great for beginners and the beach is beautiful. They have changing facilities and rent snorkle equipment (also floatation vests for weak swimmers) as well as a snack bar. St John has large 12+ pasenger open air taxi trucks that are constantly cruising around the beach parking lots so you won't have to worry about getting a ride back to the ferry dock for the return trip to St Thomas. After snorkling if you still have time to spend, bargain with a cab driver (or share one with others, as they are very large) for a tour of St John's, it's beautiful.
Be sure to take a picture of Trunk Bay beach from the road up on the hill overlooking it.....
Enjoy your trip
