Default Beaches or good shore excursions in San Juan & St Thomas

Any recommendations for beaches or fun excursions in these ports?

Night life is good, some ships have shore exs. Also, like Rum, visit the distillery. Either ship tour or try it yourself.

Hi Shea,
While in St. Thomas, if you just want a "beach" day, take a cab to Meagans Bay, very calm and pretty beach, no snorkeling there though. If you do like to snorkel, I'd take the Red Hook Ferry over to St. Johns/Trunk Bay. The island of St. Johns is truly a paradise and the snorkeling is pretty good at Trunk bay. Its also very easy to do on your own, takes a little traveling time, but well worth it. You can split the day between going there and getting back and doing some shopping. The Havensight mall is right by the pier in St. Thomas and has the same stores you'll find downtown.

If you haven't already visited the old forts in San Juan, thats always worthwhile, you can walk from the pier. El Morro is definitely something to see at least once, a lot of history there. Have a fun cruise.

There is a tour at St. John that takes you around the island and includes about 90 minutes at Trunk Bay which I highly recommend.

In St. Thomas, Megan's Bay is a large beautiful beach with great sand and the clearest water! Lots of shallow areas to swim w/ no seaweed or shells to step on! Pretty little fish swim with you! The mall in St Thomas is a lovely indoor/outdoor type and very clean with reasonable, friendly shops. Visit Hard Rock there for great food and service (tshirts too of course!) Skip the straw market at St. Thomas unless you like cheap tshirts, crowds and sweating.

Just back from cruise on Millenium went to San Juan. We shopped some
in old San Juan and then took a cab to the Condessa Plaza, we were
in the mood for a fresh water pool. The pool has swimup bar and water
slide, my first time on water slide. There is a beach protected right next
to pool, water was real warm. Also a casino in hotel.

St. Thomas there is nothing like going to St. John, take a taxi to ferry at
Red Hook, then water taxi to St. John. Worth the gorgeous ride, this
is much cheaper than through the c ruise line. When you get there taxi to trunk bay, or ask how much for a short tour, also some neat shops in Cruz Bay. You could also taxi to Caneel Bay, I have gone there and
had lunch, I am sure you could use the many beaches there also. Another thing I have done is taken a taxi on St. Thomas to the Marriott
Morningstar, the hotel you pass coming into port, they have a nice
small beach, nice hotel.

Have a great time.

I've been to St. Thomas twice, the first trip we took a cab to Megan's Bay - like previous poster said - snorkeling wasn't very good. Second trip we took a ship excursion to Coki Beach - snorkeling here was great! I'm sure it would be cheaper and just as easy to take a taxi to Coki Beach. I haven't been to St. John, but I've heard the same thing the other posters have said, the snorkeling is fabulous.

Have a great time - St. Thomas is a great island - the drive to the beaches is up and over the mountain and the views from the top are incredible!! The taxi driver we used was "Timmy's Tours" and Timmy was great! Gave us a great deal and stopped to show us the sights, then he waited on us while we swam for about and hour! The excursion we took from the ship was also nice.

Enjoy your cruise!

Another vote to take the ferry over to St. John and then snorkel at Trunk Bay we did that and beat the shore excursions plus had a lot more time. We are going back in May and plan to rent a jeep this time so we can see more of this beautiful island.
