Default Cruising Carnival Victory, and visiting ports San Juan, St.

We are five families going on a Carnival Cruise - Victory (family reunion with 21 passengers). Can you share your experience on the ship as well as port of calls? We are especially interested in finding out things you did on the stops and your recommendations.

We are considering following :
San Juan -
Bioluminescence Bay Kayak Tour, Rain forest Tour (if it is still open after 5:00pm.

St. Thomas
St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel or Coral World Park, parasailing ...

St. Maarten

Renting a van, sightseeing around the Island and Shopping.

Thanks,

Take the rental van in St Martin and drive out to Dawn Beach. Located in an area of affluent homes and condos, there is a beach bar and restaurant, as well as a tent with food and drinks. Prices are not unreasonable .Rent chairs and umbrellas and they throw in a to die for rum punch.Beach attracts tourists and local families alike. You can do much of your shopping here as well as the beach vendors are wonderfully friendly, NOT PUSHY, and they sell almost everything you can get elsewhere at competitive prices. A very pretty beach located inside a reef. There are bathroom facilities at the beach bar.

Your plans seem good. On St. Maarten with a rented van, sightseeing would consist of visiting other properties. Go to the airport and stand under the 747 landing and see if you can stay. If I wasn't filming, I would have run. Just kidding.
Orient Beach is nice to spend the day, but you would only need transportation to and from. With children, be warned that the next door nude beach some times spills over with a few exhibitionsist.
We visited the butterfly farm which was OK, but I'm not into butterflies.
Beach scenery, resort property sightseeing. shopping and visit the little bar near the airport runway. Do not drive the van on the road if you see an aircraft getting ready to take off or come in for a landing. I have seen a car caused to sway.
We spent five days at Captain Oliver's on Oyster Pond. It is nice to just visit and sight see. If your significant other gets in the swimming pool here and goes near the under water panel it makes an interesting picture. The head looks like it is disconnected from the body because of the light rays being bent.
Most of shopping is best in Philipsburg and technology prices are good. Of course bargain.

Default Re: Cruising Carnival Victory, and visiting ports San Juan,

I haven't been on a Carnival ship when I went to these ports (we sailed RCI) But I can tell you what we did. We have never done an excursion in San Juan, but I will tell you there is a very small jewelry store there called the Emerald Isle where you can get a super deal on Emeralds. In St. Thomas we have taken a cab over to Mageans Bay (beautiful beach) and twice we have taken the ferry over to St. Johns (even more beautiful beaches) We love this beach area it is so beautiful at Trunk Bay. You will love it. And in St. Maarten we have gone to the butterfly farm (very interesting) which also includes a tour of the island and a stop on the french side for shopping. And we have done the semi submersible, which also included a tour of the island and shopping.
While in St. Maarten if you want a great deal on jewelry go to Kay's Jewelers. We have gotten some great deals here. They have some unusual designer peices here.
Wishing smooth sailing and calm cooling breezes,
Mary
