Any tour of the locks are wonderful especially from a technical and historical point of view. We took the bus to the Pacific side and did a partial transit on a tour boat which was quite interesting. Others that we know of did a tour that consisted of transportation to the Mira Flores Locks where they watched and viewed the locks and they seemed satisfied with that. There is also the tour on the "Green Train" which is very popular and supposedly quite pretty and well thought of. It is basically taking a train alongside the canal seeing some wonderful sites along the way. I would suggest that you take a ships tour in this country as when we were there early this year I noted lots of revolutionary slogans painted everywhere. The official word is that there is no problems but word on the street is that most Panamanians are very unhappy and would love to see a differant government and guess who they think is responsible for their current situation? Panama is also a very dirty place with trash and garbage strewn everywhere and in huge piles at the end of many streets in urban areas.

We only did a partial transit to Gatun Lake. We had a ball there. To go ashore you must buy a tour package we paid $35.00 each, well worth it. Great Indian dancing entertainment. If you are there for a time, you can book different tours from the owner of the Yacht club on shore. try gold coast travel.com or email the canal authority for information that is what we did. Bob
