Default AOS southern excursions

My boyfriend and I are going on the AOS this thanksgiving to Aruba, Curacao, St. Thomas and St. Martin and I am having too much 'trouble' deciding what we are going to do in each port. Everyone here has such good info I would love to here what some of other people's highlights have been in those ports. Here is what I have tentatively selected...

Aruba - Aruba jeep adventure through the cruise line.

Curacao - Beach Break through the cruise line, maybe shopping/walk through town on our own before and after.

St. Martin - Take a cab to Orient Beach.

St. Thomas - Want to go to St. John. Is it easy to do on your own?

I would also love some input on ship excursions vs. doing it on your own. We both have traveled extensively, but also have never had to worry about making it back to a ship on time....

Great questions! I am also taking this cruise (in 2003) and you've asked what I'm looking to know also. Any replies????
