Transportation to Port Canaveral

We are thinking of taking a Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, FL (HAL, Zaandam, Nov).

We are coming from West coast and probably arriving at Florida a day before the cruise. (We've done a red-eye once and we could barely function during the following few days.)

What is the best transportation method from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?

We are thinking of renting a car to and take a shuttle from Port Canaveral. But then we are not sure where we can drop off (maybe Melbourne Airport?) the car and how we can get to Port Canaveral from the drop-off location.

If we take a shuttle, would they take us to a hotel? How should we get to the port from the hotel?

How does everyone do this???

We stay at the Marriott in Orlando the night before the cruise and have a shuttle (carnival) from the hotel to Port Canaveral.

The Bee Line Expressway is nothing but bumper to bumper shuttles. 45 minute drive. Your cruise line, TA or a visit to either the Port Canaveral or MCO websites will hook you up with one.

jean, we are thinking of Nov. 23, Thanksgiving week. That is pretty much the only time we both can take a week vacation... At least it's not expensive like X'mas or New Years cruises.

There is a company here in FL called Cruise Connections - they have shuttle buses that will take you to the port. You should be able to book this via your travel agent - who should book it directly with the cruise line as it's much less expensive that way. They normally pick up at several different locations in the Orlando area. There home base is in Sarasota I believe. Have a terrific cruise - we'll be on the Golden Princess the 9th of Nov.
