Default Princess Cruises Majahual Port

Hi I will be going on the Grand Princess 7/27/03 to the Western Caribbean. This will be my first Princess Cruise. Can anyone tell me about Majahual? What should I do on that port?

Get a taxi and get to the town you will find evrything there but at a fraction of the cost

and some say more variety too

It's also called Costa Maya or Porto(Puerto) Maya on the web so it can be a little confusing finding decent information

We just got back from a cruise on the Grand Princess (2/1/02 - 2/8/03) and it was great. However, Majahual offers NOTHING unless you want to take an hour plus bus ride to the ruins, spend two hours there, and take an hour plus trip back. There is a shopping area at the docking site that has about 20 stores with ok stuff. Prices are not bad. However, if I went again I think I would just stay on board and enjoy all the ship has to offer. On the other hand Princess Cays, Grand Cayman and Cozemell were great stops. If you want more info on those stops let me know.

Thank you for the info. I have been to Grand Cayman and Cozumel before. I am going to do the Sting Ray City since I have never done that before. I think I am going to book on my own w/ Capt. Marvin (ships too expensive) We are a family of 4. Cozumel I have done the ruins I want to do X-Caret this time. That will be my splurge this time. Princess Cay I figure we would just do the relax in the beach thing. Majahual is were I am soo confused. Should we do the excursion or not. I do not know if the ruins are worth it or not.

Not having done the ruin thing I really cannot comment. However, from what we heard from people that did go, the trip was long and the ruins were at best so-so. They do have some vehicles there to rent if you just want to get lost in the jungle (and I do mean jungle). Once again, didn't do that either, nor did I hear of anyone on the ship that did. As for Princess Cays, all there really is to do there is beach and water stuff. But it is a beautiful beach and relaxing is the name of the game. They have the servers running around taking drink orders as you lay in your chair. You never have to move except to go to the buffet (ribs, brats, burgers, etc.). What a great start to your week.
