Re: Re: Best snorkeling in Cozumel - Dzul Ha or Chankanaab?
I have a question about Palencaar - it was my understanding that you could not snorkel there without taking some type of excursion, either through the ship or booking on your own. I thought I read that to get out to the reef and good snorkeling, it was too far to swim from shore.
We had really wanted to go there but this time in Cozumel we didn't want to do any kind of "organized" tour. We plan on renting a jeep and touring around on our own, stopping where and when we want with our family.
But if you know that we can snorkel on our own at Palencaar, we will definitely stop there. Thanks for your help.

HI gang, you can only get to Palencaar Reef by boat, you can either do a ships excursion or book onto a dive boat by yourself. Its a nice boat ride out the the reef. Our captain was very informative pointing out things along the way. We booked through the ship, it wasn't that expensive considering that we had a certified dive master with us at all times, who showed us lots of beautiful things, and who even dove down and retrevied a sea turtle, brought it to the surface for everyone to see. Its an effortless swim because the current gently carries you along. Refreshments on the return trip after the dive. Saw lots of beautiful fish, an eel, a barracuda, the turtle.
