Default What to do in Grand Turk, T&C??

We will be going on the Horizon on its 19 January 2004 sailing which will have
an unusual port of call at Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos (7 AM to 3 PM) on a
Thursday. We have never visited this island before. What are the "not to be
missed" highlights there? Should we consider spending a beach day at one of
the resorts (paying a fee for chairs, etc.)? What about shopping? We would love
to hear from the experts on Grand Turk! Oh, one other thing, we noticed we
will be at Grand Turk during the humpback whale migration in that area-- anyone
have any experience seeing these whales?
Thanks for any scoops on the Turks & Caicos- we know absolutely nothing about
Grand Turk!

Have not been to Grand Turk but have been to T&C (Provo) MANY times - so I can give you a little info on Grand Turk.
1. It will be very quiet
2. There should be good snorkeling and nice beaches.
3. There is a very good but small local museum of the T&C in Grand Turk - friends who visited it thought it was very charming.
4. Yes the humpback whales DO migrate very close to Grand Turk - If you are there at the right time your chances of seeing them are very good.
5. The local people will be a little shy but very nice. The island will be very safe.
Overall you should find this a quiet laid back port to spend a relaxing day. Maybe walk around a little, go to the beach or take a whale watching excusion.

Thanks for your response-- sounds like a pretty, restful island to visit! I'm looking
forward to visiting a new island!

Keep the responses to my question coming! I would love to hear more about
Grand Turk! There is very little information on the internet about Grand Turk and
the Turks & Caicos islands so I'm depending on you all readers to tell all you
know!

They are supposed to be really good diving destinations, if you are interested in that. You could probably arrange with a local dive shop to do a discover scuba activity.

When doing resarch put in Provencials, Turks & Caicos Islands. As mentioned very laid back but I am excited to learn that Celebrity is going to try this island out as a port of call. This is very new and good news. I wonder if you will tender into town.
