Default Bahamas, What did you do?

Wondering what shore excursions people are doing in Nassau & Cococay? Which did you like? Dislike? Did you use the cruise line or take a cab in Nassau? Is there any thing to do close to the pier (walking distance)?

Hi Arlene,
We did the ship harbor tour and the trip to Atlantis, great way to fill up a few hours in Nassau and I loved seeing the dig and aquarium in Atlantis, well worth the money, IMHO. We still had time when we returned to the pier to shop around town in Nassau.

You can take a taxi or water taxi over there yourself and then pay for the tour.

There is a lot to do in Nassau, i think if you check back into the articles section you will find a very good article on what to do in Nassau. Nassau itself is a very historic town, Government Center is very interesting. Most folks will hop a taxi (either land or water) over to Paradise Island and spend some time there, Atlantis Resort and Casino is an amazing place to wander around the casino is gorgeous, the Aquarium/Dig is amazing, the grounds are beautiful, you can use their beach (for a fee), some good souvenior shopping.

I took the ship's Nassau city tour which included the pirates museum and the two historical forts which date from the late 1700's. It was enjoyable!

The dig at Atlantis was excellent. If you take the water ferry over you do have to walk a bit to get to the resort but it's also a nice ride over on the water.

Cococay is a great beach day. Defiantly do the Wave Runners - real blast.

In late June '03 we were on the Norwegian Dawn and stopped in Nassau. We waked to the taxi stand and were approached by a native -- named BIG "D". He said he had a limo (old Caddy) and for $75.00 would take us for 1 1/2 hours, around the island, shopping and to Atlantis where he would show us around. Well, it was more like 4 hours and we had a lovely tour of the island, hut shopping, and Atlantis, gambled fora while and saw aquarium. He's a great guy -- proud of his island and funny. We felt safe, were comfortable (no air conditioning) and he knew his way around the people. Highly recommend BIG D at taxi stand at dock -- 6 people could fit, but we were 2. Gave him $100.00 cash and he seemed happy.

In Nassau we took a water taxi over to Paradise Island and walked around the Atlantis hotel for a few minutes. We weren't allowed to use their pools or anything, but we could go in their shops and walk around the lobby and admire th structure! We then went to a nearby beach and spent a few hrs swimming.

The last time we took Carnival's tender over to Salt Cay and spent the day there. On the way to the boat to take us to Salt Cay we walked through downtown Nassau by the straw market etc...

I like Nassau, but it seems like a good beach port, especially if you go over to Paradise Island!

In March we took the water taxi over and it was about $8 each I believe...round trip. Walked over to the hotel and aquarium and them since you can't use their beach we went next door, there is a little sand road between the two and we were just right of their beach.....it was beautiful and we rented charis from some locals and had a GREAT time. COCO Cay was nice, but wather was not clear for snorkling.....the cook-out was really nice.........Key West is a waste of time, not enough time there and it takes up a whole day just to be there for 4 or 5 hours.............HAVE a GREAT TIME1111

For Nasau Skip the tour to Apidastra Gardens. Too far out, too small a facility & too long away from other activities. Tour also included Endless historic sites & photos at forts/ Queens Stsircase etc. More fun on another trip was snorkeling via catamaran--got a great view of the coast areas & paradise Isl/ Atlantis from another vantage point. The water is the Atlantic & can be rough.... Great shopping there & port has been very clean on recent rrips. Coco Cay--great day great snorkeling & fun BBQ.....
