We will be traveling with RCI on the Grandeur of the Seas and were wondering about the Land excursions in Progresso. What are some ideas and suggestions. What should we stay away from. We are 2 girls in our 20's and already know that the Kayaking is out of the question...since we both are afraid of falling over and know that we will. What is the take on shopping there? What about the beach...is it nice and clean? We were also thinking of waiting to the last minute and just see what people we meet are doing also...just not sure if excursions book up fast for progresso like it will for Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
We were in Progreso last November and many people complained about the Grandeur having it as a port of call. However, our group appreciated the fact that it is a newer cruise port and not as "touristy" as some others. Also, it had taken a beating from a hurricane earlier in the year. We took the bus into town to the market - found some of the BEST bargains there - and enjoyed the friendliness of the locals. Some others from our group caught another bus and went to nearby Merida for a city tour. We didn't go to the beach there.
One other thing - it was HOT and HUMID - take your hat and sunscreen!
