We have just returned from cruise to Alaska on Island Princess and are keen to cruise Panama Canal next. I know there are no guarantees on weather but when is the best time of year to avoid rough seas?? Also which cruiseline would you recommend? Thanks for your help.
Many Panama Canal cruises are part of repositioning ships on the way to or the way back from a summer deployment in Alaska. As a result you will find most Canal Cruises go In April/May and September to November. We did ours on Celebrity Mercury.
Perfect ship/perfect cruise. We cruised in late November and experienced one half day of rain south of Acapulco on a 14 day cruise. No guarantees on weather , anywhere anytime.
Hope you go and hope you enjoy as much as we did.
We did a 10 day Trans Canal cruise in February and the weather was great. The canal can get terribly hot even in February. We cruised on the Royal Princess. We ran into some weather coming into Acapulco but it guess its fairly common to hit a bit of slightly rougher seas around that area.
We did it in October,2000 On Sea Princess. Which this past spring took away from their ships and added some new ones. It was wonderful and we had great weather. Our friends did it in the spring on Celebrity and they siad it was wonderful. Good luck with your choice and time of year.
