I would appreciate advice on taxis in San Juan, Puerto Rico, especially from the airport to Old San Juan. One poster mentioned the "airport taxis" but I'm not sure if this is the name on the taxi or what? Please give any specific advice you can. I have been in SJ twice before pre-cruise and did not have any major problems with taxis (other than the wacky driving) but I would not say they were very pleasant either, other than 1 driver we had. Also, what is the cost from airport to Old San Juan?
Once you land and pick up your luggage, look for the taxi stand and they will write out a ticket for the taxi, cost should be around $20 depending on how much luggage you have. After you have that, then get into the line for taxi's, just takes a few minutes and the rate will be set, just add for a tip...
At baggage claim, look for the uniformed representative from the Puerto Rico Tourism bureau. They will fill out an invoice and give it to you indicating the amount to be paid to the driver. It was $18 per taxi plus luggage when we last cruised from SJ. The taxi's are white with the seal on the door. Do not take an unauthorized taxi.
