Default Chankanaab snorkling

Planning on taking a taxi from cruise pier to Chankanaab in March. Is there good snorkling directly from the beach area or somewhere else in the park? I have snorkled off beaches in the past and there is usually not too much to see. I have snorkled from a boat in Cozumel and that was amazing. Just wondered how they compared...

Thanks,
TC

Hi TC,
I hope to try it out next week and will let you know. I understand you snorkel pretty close to the beach, but that there are rocks as you enter the water.

Lots of fish, but no coral. They also have a submerged "temple/pyramid" there -- placed there just for the snorkeling. If you're looking for great snorkeling, I'd choose another location. This is good, but there are much better places in Cozumel...mostly accessible by boat only, however there are some good beach locations I hear.

We snorkled at Chanakaab and it was great - tons of fish, etc. There is even a swimming platform out in the water where you can snorkle to and from, etc. We rented our equipment right at the beach too and it was only about $5.00 - can't beat Chanakaab as far as beaches go - wonderful too.

We enjoyed the park. The resturant was ok and had fun pineapple drinks. There were plenty of beach lounge chairs and there were lots of fish. It was very relaxing and the park entrance fee ($10) was well worth it.

Happy Cruising!

It's a great place to take children. We're planning a trip there the week of 4/4/4.

Is the entrance fee per person? Do other things in Chankanaab cost? If so what are there to do and the costs of each.
Thanks,
Virginia

I think it is $10/person. Beaches are free, but snorkel gear, dolphins, seals, etc are all for a fee. The $10 is like your cover charge to use the beach, chairs, and water. Everything else is at a fee. I don't recall all of the fees, but they are pretty much what we're used to here in the states
