Default Snorkeling better from Cozumel or Belize City

We are cruising to Cozumel and Belize City, among other ports, in April. Which shore excursion is best for snorkeling, from Cozumel or from Belize City? Thanks!

I would recommend snorkeling in Belize because there is not much else to do there. In Cozumel there are many choices. Just my opinion - I hope it helps!

I would recommend snorkeling in Cozumel over Belize any day. I did a shark/ray alley snorkel excursion in Belize in Feb this year.

The rays were incredible (didn't see any sharks), there were tons of them and I couldn't believe how big some of them were but the reef did not look healthy. There were barely any fish and I saw none of the usual things you see around reefs, like starfish, sea urchin. It was pretty desolate. I remember thinking "where is all the sealife".

I've snorkled twice in Cozumel and see tons of fish and the like.

Our tablemates did ruin tours and raved about them. One couple did the tour closer to the ship, the other did the ruins that are like 1 1/2 drive away.

Cozumel I believe is listed as one of the top five places to snorkel in the world.
