Takaing an eastern Caribean cruise in June. Would like to scuba in either St. Thomas or St. Marteen. Any preferences?
Will also be spending a week in Boca Raton Fl. the week following the cruise. Any suggestion there? Thinking of going down to Key Largo to dive there.
I am a guppie newly certified in Feb. So please take into account the lack of experience. Have tried to take an advanced course and a rescue couse but they haven't worked out yet. Still a little chilly in Kentucky and the weekend trip I had planned to Panama City didn't work out because of a death in the family.
Thanks for your replies.
It is an easy choice to choose between St. Thomas and St. Maarten for diving. St. Thomas is by far better for diving.
http://www.cokidive.com/ is an excellent choice for an an inexpensive shore dive. Also a great place for a mixed group of divers and non-divers to spend the morning. They will pick you up when your ship dock's, spend the morning diving/snorkeling, then go next door to coral world and catch a taxi back to the ship for a quick clean up and lunch. Then you will have the whole afternoon do site-see or shop.
The diving on St. Maarten was very disappointing. I wouldn't dive there again unless the ocean was dead flat calm, and even then I wouldn't expect much.
My husband, son and 2 friends went SCUBA diving in St. Maarten - wrecks to exlpore around. They are all first-timers and took a ship's excursion. They loved it.
We all went snorkeling on St. John Island and it was great, lots of fish and coral formations.
