We're leaving soon (June 20) on Paradise to the Eastern Caribbean. Ports of call are La Romana/Casa de Campo Dominican Republic; St. Thomas V.I.; and Nassau Bahamas. Can anyone recommend the best shore excursions in any or all of these ports?
Donna since i know that you are a "beach babe" St. Thomas/St. John Island have some of the most beautiful beaches. Do it on your own, you know how to! We like to grab a cab over to Red Hook Harbor then hop on the water taxi over to St. John Island then you grab another cab - the outdoor jitney types and go to any of the beaches- Trunk Bay is the most popular with the most "stuff" to do. We like Cinnamon Bay which is next door, less touristy, less crowded, clean facilities, a nice little outdoor grill to grab a burger, good snorkeling.
We know that you love to shop so plan some time in St. Thomas to shop. I prefer the shopping downtown Charlotte-Amalie as opposed to Havensight Mall (where you will be docked). Lots of the same stores - total personal choice.
If you want to tour the island - hire a cab for a few hours and go to the "top" of the island - the view is amazing
Nassau - grab a taxi either land or water over to Paradise Island and Atlantis Resort- take the tour of the aquarium and the dig. It is so worth the cost. The casino at Atlantis is beautiful with these mammoth glass sculputres that are breathtaking!
If you want a bit of history on Nassau - downtown is within walking distance. You might want to check out the pirate museum. Love, LisaK
For St Thomas, You might want to try the half day sail/snorkle trip offered by www.interlinesail.com
Good price, and you'll be able to sunbathe on the sail over, or take the dinghy into the beach and swim, sun there. If you take the half day you will still have plenty of time to shop.
For Nassau, I agree you should see the Museum, and don't miss the straw market.
My family and I will be on the same cruise. I've had trouble finding out what to do at La Romana besides going to Altos de Chavon. We did book a half day sail with Interlinesail for St. Thomas/ St. John. We were hoping to do some snorkeling on all the ports but don't want to go on the ship excursions which are so crowded. Have you gotten any more info on the ports?
If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend reading my review, which details all of our excursions we took on that route. Just do a topic search for "16 page Paradise Review."
Personally, my favorite port was the Dominican Republic. We loved it so much that my husband and myself are looking into buying a home down there! We did the powerboat pure adrenaline tour which let you do so many different things - beaches, natural swimming pools, photo ops - simply incredible!
Do Nassau on your own - it's silly to pay $49 for a beach excursion when you can catch the bus for $1 per person to Cable Beach, which is absolutely free and absolutely beautiful!
In St. Thomas we went to St John to snorkel Trunk Bay (NOT to be missed!), then shopped in downtown Charlotte Amalie the rest of the day.
If anyone needs more info, you'll find it in my review. Or, feel free to email me! :o)
Alina C; have you checked out the Carnival board? Under my Paradise, June 20 heading, there are about 57 replies about our cruise, and you can meet some of the others who will be joining us. There's also photos under Paradise photo heading. Hope we get to meet on board. E-mail me with any questions!
