Default w. carrib & vaccines for kids???

health department is suggesting vaccines for the kids before we visit Belize, Cozumel. Isla Roatan and Grand Cayman. Anyone else have to do this? Anyone not done it and had a problem? thanks so much for the help

The kids pediatrition at Kaiser recommended that they have a hepatitis vaccine shot before going to Mexico. Having lost a family member to hepatitis C, we didn't even question the recommendation. They had them before they even left the clinic.

I understand hepatitis vacine shots are also recommended for kids going away to college and living in dorms.

Just remember hepatitis can easily lead to a liver transplant, if you can find a liver, or a not very easy death.

what vaccine are they recommending and why? We have not done it

they are recommending at least the hepatitis A and they're checking to see about any more. But so far no one else has had a problem....

Hep A, Hep B and make sure their DT (tetnus) is up to date. If you are doing any jungle type excursions bring lots of off w/ deet also.

If you go to the CDC's website, you can get the recommendations for traveling in the Caribbean.

Leaving mid-July for W. Caribbean. My kids--6 and 9 both got Hep. A vaccines which my pediatrician highly recommended. (I also got the series as well as my husband since we are in the health care field and cannot afford to contract Hep. A!) Better safe than sorry--
