Default Horseback riding weight limits?

My family and I are interested in going horseback riding in either Montego Bay or Cozumel. We have someone in our party that is possibly over 250 lbs, (I'm not sure) I don't want to ask her what she weighs, but am concerned as most places have a 220 weight limit or maybe 250, but I've seen none with a higher limit. Does anyone know of a company in either of these locations that would not object to a heavier person riding? Thanks for your help, Kim

I just read since I was thinking of this also on our trip to Cozumel in Nov. It says the weight limit is 220. I am out of this one as my Harley man is 245. Ro

I don't know anyplace that would rent their horses to someone of that weight. If they did they would either be renting Clydsdales or being cruel to their stock.

Most commercial stables base their rider weight restrictions on the idea that an average horse can safely carry up to 20% of its own weight, and figure that the average horse weighs 1,000 pounds, which means that it could carry 200 pounds - which would typically break down to 20 pounds of tack and 180 pounds of rider.

How much do you think those poor horses should put up with? Rental horses are not the best specimens .
