I will be saiing to St Thomas and St Martian nex tweek and would like to know where the best beaches are. I will have childeren with me. I would like to go to Orient beach will there be a problem if I bring kids. Is the nude section isolated
Also any suggestions on Meagans Bay . How much is cab fare and admission. thanks
Orient and Maegens are the largest and most popular beaches on both islands. Yes you can keep your kids away from the nude section of Orient, but, remember this is a European style beach and topless can be found most everywhere. Both beaches are about a $15 or so cab ride ( fare is fixed and there will be cab dispatchers to put you in a cab and confirm the fare). Both are beautiful beaches and both can get very crowded if there are several ships in port.
Alternatives (with full services) on St Thomas would be Cokie Beach and Saphire Beach on St Martin, , Dawn Beach.
We were at Bikini Beach area of Orient and still encountered full nudity - not prevalent but certainly a possibility when you visit. The beach was beautiful - the proctologists view of the guy who set his lounge up the opposite direction of ours -not. Didn't really bother us but we don't have kids to consider.
In St Thomas it's a $12 per person round trip to Magen's. It is a beautiful beach that is well worth the $3 per person admission fee. The beach is appropriate for kids. Have fun!

For St. Maarten, I wouldn't recommend Orient Beach if you have children with you. There is full nudity and it is not just in one secluded section. Bikini Beach, right "next door" is, as mentioned, a "top optional" beach. So if that is a concern for you with children, I would stay away from both of these.
In Mar '03, we asked the taxi driver to take us to Bikini Beach but he dropped us off at Orient Beach, leaving us to walk the length of Orient Beach to get to Bikini Beach. I'm not sure if this was an honest mistake/miscommunication, or if they like to do this on purpose. Saw some sights that I would have rather not seen, if you know what I mean.
Sorry I can't recommend a good beach on St. Maarten.
On St. Thomas, yes, Magen's Bay is nice. For me, the water is a bit too calm. You might like that depending on how small your children are. It's also quite crowded. As an alternative, note that all beaches on St. Thomas are public, so your taxi driver could suggest a nice beach for you. Just arrange a time for them to come back and pick you up to return you to the ship. We did this a few years ago, and really enjoyed our day at Lime Tree/Blue Beard Beach. Very quiet and beautiful. (one of those names is the old name, the other the new name...sorry can't remember which is which)
i would definately recommend Dawn Beach on St. Maarten - very family friendly, not nearly as crowded and toursity as Orient Beach.
On St. Thomas - Maegan's Bay Beach is beautiful, but again its very touristy and get very crowded very fast, you might want to consider Coki Beach and Coral World which is right next door, the kids might like that. Another great beach alternative is to go over to St. John Island - you get there by water taxi, very easy. The secenery and the beaches on this island will take your breath away. The most popular beach is Trunk Bay Beach - again very popular with its marked snorkel trail, this is the destination beach for all the cruise ships excursions. There are lots of other great beaches all along this island that are less crowded and very family friendly. Our favorite is Cinnamon Bay - no entrance fee, very nice and clean with good facilites and a nice little grill to get a bite to eat. Good snorkeling.
