Our first cruise was in September, western Caribbean. . & days of sunshine and smooth waters, next one was late September to southern Caribean, 7 days of sunshine and smooth seas, third was Bermuda in September, one 12 hour stretch of really bumpy seas as we crossed through a front , 6.5 perfect days otherwise.
Moral of my tale, yes you can find perfect weather in September.
We went last year on Sept. 25 - Weather was great - that's why we are going again this year - same week!!! The ocean water was really warm also - better than going in Dec. or Jan.
I'm sure there have been weeks with nice weather during hurricane season, but lets face it--it's like playing Russian Roulette. You're at the mercy of the weather and there's not a thing you can do about it. There are two things you couldn't pay me to do-- (a)schedule an outdoor wedding any time of the year and (b) schedule a cruise during hurricane season. Even if the weather cooperates, it's too nerve-wracking wondering what's going to happen and probably seeing all your careful planning come to naught. And if your cruise is cancelled, the disappointment would be devastating.
We like winter cruises and have sailed twice in Jan and once in Feb. Next time we are going in Feb. again, mainly because our 7th grandchild is due Jan. 14th and we don't want to miss this baby's birth like we did the 6th last summer when he came 3 1/2 weeks early while we were in Alaska. I need the brief respite from nasty OH winters. This year we are looking at a 10 day cruise to the Panama Canal. That 12-day Alaskan cruise-tour last year makes a 7 day cruise just seem too short.
Explorer- W. Carib. 1/12/02
Explorer- E. Carib. 1/18/03
Summit- Alaska cruise/tour 8/3/03
Adventure- S. Carib. 2/8/04
Projected--Brilliance -Panama Canal 2/4/05
Boy, with the weather in the Caribbean this post has a new slant! We are cruising in three weeks and watching the weather anxiously, but we new this was a possibility going in. I am married to a CPA so we can't cruise in the winter and spring and summer are busy and pricey so the fall is great for us. While we know it is a chance, we have never had to "worry or think" about it prior to this year. It is usually a gamble that pays off quite well.
I also got married outdoors with no backup plan. Maybe I am a live by the seat of my pants kind of gal The wedding was great.
How does the saying go.....a bad day at sea is better than a good day at work
