Default pot/marijuana

My husband and I are 1st timers Sept. 12th. Is it safe to bring joints onto the ship? How about finding some in Puerto Rico, St. John, or Tortola? Can you smoke in your rooms or on the private balcony? Any help would be appreciated.

They are NOT joking and there have been many stories about passengers being escorted off the ship at the next port, the crew usually gives them up. Remember there is a Safety Officer onboard too who wanders the ship and I believe drug sniffing dogs when your leaving the ship just before you pick up your luggage...FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!!

If it's illegal here, what makes you think you would get away with it anywhere else? Don't be foolish, enjoy your cruise and have a beer.

Five American cruise ship passengers were fined for drug possession yesterday prompting lawyer Mark Pettingill to call for tourists to be given more warnings about the Island's strict drug policy.
Todd Michael Bobst, 25, of Pennsylvania, was fined $1,000 for possession of 3.55 grams of cannabis after a Police dog team went aboard the Norwegian Majesty in St. George's on May 12. He was also fined $500 for having 3.18 grams of magic mushrooms and $500 for a drug pipe.
Picked up in that same raid was New Yorker Guiseppe Gelsimino, 31, who was fined $1,000 for 0.74 grams of cannabis while New Jersey man Brian Lennihan, 32, who was fined $1,000 for 6.01 grams of cannabis.
Both men told the court they were here on honeymoon.
Thirty-two-year-old Lori Sorvino was also fined $1,000 for 21.36 grams of cannabis.
Crown counsel Anthony Blackman said although there was concern about whether that quantity was just for personal use, he said there was no evidence she was dealing.
Sorvino said she used cannabis instead of prescribed medication after suffering a miscarriage. She said: "I don't want to be addicted to anything."

There is a very good chance you could get "stung" instead of buzzed. We have seen the dogs in action. They love their job and they are good at it.

I bet the original posters would say they are not " hooked " --- but are already notifying the world they feel can't cruise for a few days without a joint.

Hey, if its important, take the risk. Who knows--- maybe you will be lucky--- then again--- maybe not.

I doubt it's a joke. In July I smelled pot while sitting on my veranda. It was very strong. couldn't believe someone would take that kind of a chance in a foreign country. Our jails are country clubs compared to some of them overseas. To even ASK the question defies understanding.

You should have taken a cruise that stops in Jamaica!!! You can buy pot at every street corner. I don't have anything against pot, as long as people smoking it are adults and no one blows the smoke in my face. Frankly, I think it should be legalized and sold in the same fashion as alcohol. I have seen people doing some stupid things while drunk and being high on pot is probably a lesser evil as you are too happy to hurt anyone else except yourself. The police should be after violent criminals and terrorists and leave the smokers alone, as long as the pot is for personal use. Plus, think of all the taxes that the government can collect and all the drug dealers that will be out of business if pot is sold legally. Wait a couple of years, maybe less, and you will be able to take a cruise to Canada, get off at a port, and buy your pot legally, along with the Cuban cigars. Just don't take any back home with you.

However, I would not risks taking the pot on board a ship. Those beagles are unbelievable. On my last cruise, a lady was pulled over by Customs while leaving the ship. Because of her medical condition, she had some heavy-duty pain killers (narcotics). The medication was in a bottle, in a ziploc bag in her suitcase and the dog sniffed it out. She had a proper prescription and a letter from her doctor, so she had no problems. However, her bags were thoroughly searched and she was treated like a criminal by the Customs agents.

Happy sailing!

I am now retired from a major carrier and would occassionally help out in customs. Never saw pot in a suitcase, but heard a buzzing sound once and asked the elderly lady what that noise was. She proudly said "oh that's my vibrator."

You must remember that the drug laws are different in other countries, such as entrapment. In Mexico and other carribean Islands this word is not in the law books. You
would have to the biggest idiot in th world to buy drugs in a another country.

Grow up and get a life, the stuff is illegal.
PS - Foreign jails aren't country clubs like American jails.

Even if its legal for the “locals” to smoke, if you even look like a tourist, your butt will be in jail with a hefty fine and trying to figure out a flight home. They love making money off of dumb tourist in Jamaica.

I would never think of trying it, since technically it is international drug smuggling. They probably would just fine you for drug possesion but its not a risk worth taking

on an island, score some off your cab driver, and smoke it in his cab, or on the beach away from everyone, whatever

DON'T take it down with your or bring it back on board the ship from a port - simple

Haven't smoked in a decade but used to in my teens, that was always how we did it on cruises!

Remember as an American citizen outside this country w/ drugs in your possession you get busted for international SMUGGLING not some slap on the wrist possession charge for small personal consumption amounts.

Where there's a will, there's a way. If you are going to do it, be very creative in your smuggling & please don't do it around me.
