I am sailing on the 9/26/04 Rhapsody of the seas and it looks like they are changing the stop in Grand Cayman to Costa Maya, Mexico due to Hurricane Ivan. Anyone ever been to Costa Maya....how to you get to the beaches from where the ships dock. Any info or reccomendations for activities would be appreciated

Hi Ware,
Best bet would be to do an excursion to a beach, I hear they have some really nice ones. There is also some shopping by the port, but nothing else really close by.
We rented a golf cart @ $15/hr and drove down to Mahahual (sp) for the day. Beautiful beach there. They have restaurants and bars on the beach. We met up with some people that took the ship's tour to Uvero beach and they had a great time there. We're looking into trying that for the next cruise.

Yes, you probably want to go to Majahual and Uvero Beach. If you go to www.mayabeachgarden.com and click on Majahual, then click on Mahahual Water Park, it will show you activities with prices. Uvero Beach is very near to Mahahual and offers relaxation as well as fun. You can also email jeanbell1@prodigy.net for more info. . The beaches are BEAUTIFUL in the little town and Uvero. The pier itself offers a shopping mall, saltwater pool, and cultural shows. The beach is rocky there. A couple of miles from the pier you will find parasailing, snorkeling, waverunners, horses, banana boat rides, great food that is totally safe and delicious, bars, and beaches to relax on. The port is wonderful.
we went on a nice snorkeling excursion. You get there via AC bus (which you will appreciate down there) saw a bit of the area--mostly jungle & went to a great site by the reef. Eng speaking & helpful guides--they split us into advanced &beginner. Water was a bit rough that day but was a nice trip. Upon return there was plenty of time for he shops in the little tourist village at the dock...
