We are sailing on the Radiance, Jan. 2, 2005- we will be going to St. Thomas- we would like to go to St. John- do they rent snorkel equipment on the island- we are interested in trunk bay, cinnamon, and caneel beach. We were going to purchase our own sets as we want to snorkel on CocoCay and at St. Maarten, but I'm starting to wander about the benefit- there are 6 of us (I will be paying for all). Also, when you rent the sets, do they include flippers- or do you need them. I had never used them, but in Cozumel, they were nice to have.
Yes, they do rent them at Trunk Bay, incliding the flippers. WE brought our own, so I can't tell you the cost, but when we bought our sets, they were $50 for everything and usually a rental can be $20, so it almost pays for it self in just a few uses, but then you have to pack and carry all that stuff, so its your choice. You can also bring along the beach towels from ship for excursions, but just be sure you return them all, or they charge you for a lost towel.
Trunk bay is absolutely beautiful as is all of St. John, its worth the time and effort to get there, have fun!
Kathy - on most cruise lines you can rent your snorkel gear for 5 days for around $25.00.
I would look into that before renting on the islands. The gear that the cruise lines have is usually in better shape and i would trust the cleaning of gear on the ship over that on the islands.
If you plan on doing a lot of snorkeling now and in the future, then at some point i would purchase a good set of snorkel gear.
Flippers make all the difference in the world!
