I am considering a cruise that either leaves from Tampa or New Orleans going to Cozumel (4 nights, 2 sea days, 1 port day). The trip will be in January. I have been to Mexico that time of year and know what the weather is like - my question is will the weather be chilly on the sea days as we are leaving the states and returning?? Has anyone done either of these cruises during the winter months that can let me know?? Thanks!
hi yes i have cruised to cozumel in late december to cozumel from tampa and the weather was beautiful. the only thing is it does get a little chilly at night (well chilly to me and i lived in florida at the time) but not at all cold. you might want to bring a small jacket or windbreaker because it can get quite windy on the cruise at night. in cozumel the weather is like it was in mexico, i have also been there in the winter. i would tell you to not worry about the weater, i personall think that is the best time to cruise the caribbean. i hope that helps Catie
Prepare for anything (ok maybe not snow or frigid temps). We have been sailing over the past 2 New Years. Weve left out of Ft Lauderdale and Miami, both of which were cool at the time of sailing. At sea, we did have a few cloudy and cool days, and some nights were cool on deck. In port, it was hot and humid, with an occasional shower/storm that went through quickly. Keep in mind that El Nino is in full force now and theyre predicting a colder and wetter winter here in the southeast. I dont know if it will affect the islands though.
as the others have said your ports of departure might be a bit chilly. Bring a light jacket or sweater. I like to travel wearing a zipfront sweatshirt with a t-shirt underneath, that way if its warm or chilly when we arrive i am all set.
Cozumel will be nice and warm, it could even be downright hot and muggy in town. Great beach/snorkling weather.
All depends if it is sunny or not. Cloudy days are on the chilly side for me. Also, the pools on our ship Navigator were too cold for us to enjoy. Not many were swimming in them. The hot tubs werent very hot either. Now if youre from up north, it will probably feel warm to you!
We have cruised the past 2 Januarys ( and this one will be Eastern Carib) to the Western Caribbean- the first time it was a little cool, had to cover up with a towel at the pool, last year it was beautiful, warm, laid out every day. You just never know- always just a little cool at night.
